The provision of and access to products and services can be withdrawn, interrupted or modified at any time, without any guaranteed renewal.

Neither the OpenRadiation publisher nor OpenRadiation partners can be held liable for malfunctioning or inoperative products or services.

 

Precautions in relation to measurements:

The OpenRadiation base is a citizen data base created using unprocessed unfiltered values. OpenRadiation partners cannot be held liable for the values shown and the consequences of any interpretation or use of these values. In addition, the measurements taken with the OpenRadiation application correspond to environmental measurements taken at a given point in time and in specific conditions. These measurements are not necessarily representative of your long-term exposure ionising radiation.

 

Participation in the OpenRadiation base:

You are considered as a User-Contributor to the OpenRadiation base if you submit measurements to the OpenRadiation base, regardless of the means of access (measurements entered or submitted via the OpenRadiation site, use of the OpenRadiation API, use of a third party application or the OpenRadiation application, etc.). The OpenRadiation data base is published under an ODC-ODbL License. Most of the data submitted is used to create the OpenRadiation base, including your photos submitted. When the photographs associated with a measurement are displayed on a support medium (paper, website, etc.), they can be freely re-used for non-commercial purposes according to the terms of the CC-BY-SA-NC 4.0 license: you must be credited with the mention "CC-BY-SA-NC 4.0 user name / OpenRadiation", where user name must be replaced by the user name of the person who created the measurement on the OpenRadiation site.

When you submit measurements to the OpenRadiation base, you accept that all data associated with the measurements will be published as opendata according to the terms of the above licenses.

All data in the OpenRadiation base corresponds to the following:

  • apparatusId: identifier of the sensor used for the measurement
  • apparatusVersion: sensor model
  • apparatusSensorType: Geiger or photodiode
  • apparatusTubeType: type of tube if a geiger type sensor is used
  • temperature: outdoor temperature (°C) at the time the measurement is taken
  • value*: measurement in µSv/h
  • hitsNumber: number of counts during the measurement
  • calibrationFunction : calibration function used to estimate dose rate from count number
  • startTime*: start date and time for the measurement (ISO GMT)
  • endTime: end date and time for the measurement (ISO GMT)
  • latitude*, refinedLatitude : latitude (decimal value), possibly corrected in refinedLatitude
  • longitude*, refinedLongitude : longitude (decimal value), possibly corrected in refinedLongitude
  • accuracy: accuracy of the GPS position
  • altitude, refinedAltitude: altitude in meters above sea level, possibly corrected in refinedAltitude
  • altitudeAccuracy: accuracy of the altitude
  • endLatitude*, refinedEndLatitude : latitude (decimal value) at the end of the measurement, possibly corrected in refinedEndLatitude
  • endLongitude*, refinedEndLongitude : longitude (decimal value) at the end of the measurement, possibly corrected in refinedEndLongitude
  • endAaccuracy: accuracy of the GPS position at the end of the measurement
  • endAltitude, refinedEndAltitude: altitude in metres above sea level at the end of the measurement, possibly corrected in refinedEndLatitude
  • endAltitudeAccuracy: accuracy of the altitude at the end of the measurement
  • deviceUuid: identifier of the mobile device (Android: whole number generated when the device is initially started up, Apple: UUID for the application - see https://www.npmjs.com/package/@stevegill/cordova-plugin-device)
  • devicePlatform: operating system used by the mobile device (Android, iOS, etc.)
  • deviceVersion: version of the mobile device system
  • deviceModel: mobile device model
  • reportUuid*: unique measurement identifier
  • manualReporting: true if the measurement was sent manually
  • organisationReporting: version of the application used to send the measurement
  • description: description of the measurement by the user
  • measurementHeight: height at which the measurement was taken in metres above the ground
  • tags: list of tags added by the user
  • enclosedObject: image added by the user
  • userId: user name
  • measurementEnvironment: environment qualified by the user when taking the measurement: countryside, city, on the road, inside, plane
  • rain : true if it rains during the measurement
  • flightNumber : flight number, filled by the user.
  • seatNumber : number of the seat in the plane, filled by the user
  • windowSeat : true if the seat is next to the window
  • storm : true if the plane has crossed storms during the measurement
  • dateAndTimeOfCreation: date on which the data was recorded in the OpenRadiation base
  • qualification: qualification of the measurement by the OpenRadiation community: seemscorrect, mustbeverified, noenvironmentalcontext, badsensor, badprotocole, baddatatransmission
  • qualificationVotesNumber: number of votes for the qualification
  • reliability: score calculated automatically, estimating if the measurement is a trustworthy environmental measurement
  • atypical: true if the value of the measurement is considered as unusual.
  • If flightNumber is filled, following informations can be filled too : departureTime (departure time of the plane), arrivalTime(arrival time of the plane), airportOrigin (airport origin), airportDestination (airport at the destination), aircraftType (aircraft type), firstLatitude (departure airport latitude), firstLongitude (departure airport longitude), midLatitude (latitude in the middle of the flight), midLongitude (longitude in the middle of the flight), lastLatitude (destination airport latitude), lastLongitude (destination airport longitude)

Data with an asterisk* must be provided, otherwise the data will not be included in the OpenRadiation base.

If you are a User-Contributor to the OpenRadiation base, you are also committing to comply with the applicable legislation and, in particular, copyright, image rights, and rights to privacy, as well as to maintain certain ethics (no insults, degrading images, etc.). You also agree to only publish photos taken by yourself, with no rights, or which belong to you. Photos of natural persons are not permitted.

The OpenRadiation publisher reserves the right to delete any content reported and which fails to comply with the above instructions, at any time and without need for a warning.

 

Terms of use for the OpenRadiation API:

The OpenRadiation publisher offers an application programming interface (API), known as the OpenRadiation API, which particularly allows User to access data in the OpenRadiation base and User-Contributor to submit data to the OpenRadiation base (see Participation in the OpenRadiation base). This API can be used free of charge providing that an access code is obtained (see description of the API). This API must be used in view of the resources provided, to avoid overloading these resources. In case of abuse, the OpenRadiation publisher reserves the right to refuse access to this API without notice.

 

Terms of use for the OpenRadiation site:

The OpenRadiation publisher provides a website known as the OpenRadiation site, which can be used free of charge by any individual, where User-Contributor can register and subsequently contribute to forums, projects and the exchange of information on radioactivity. By participating on the OpenRadiation site, you agree to read and comply with the User charter.

Furthermore, the OpenRadiation site can particularly be used to enter measurements (see Precautions in relation to measurements) and publish these measurements in the data base (see Participation in the OpenRadiation base): if measurements are entered manually via the OpenRadiation site, the data published correspond to the data entered, and to your user name, which you must provide (userId); if a measurement file is submitted, the additional data measurementHeight and measurementEnvironment is required. By publishing measurements, you accept that all of the data transmitted will be published in the OpenRadiation base.

Unless mentioned otherwise or for content relating to OpenRadiation base data, all rights to the content of the OpenRadiation site are reserved (see legal notice).

The terms applicable to the use and correction of data submitted by the User-Contributor or the User are available in the legal notice, under "personal data".

In addition, OpenRadiation partners encourage the re-use of the widgets and permalinks provided to the developers on third party sites or applications, without need for prior approval.

 

Terms of use for the OpenRadiation application:

The OpenRadiation publisher provides a mobile application, via the third party service platforms Google PlayⓇ and Apple StoreⓇ, known as the OpenRadiation application. This application can be used free of charge, and can particularly be used to take measurements (see Precautions in relation to measurements) and publish measurements in the OpenRadiation base (see Participation in the OpenRadiation base).

The purpose of the OpenRadiation project is notably to create a citizen data base on ambient radioactivity levels, therefore all Users-Contributors of the OpenRadiation application accept to share the data recorded, whether published automatically or manually.

The data transmitted by the OpenRadiation application to the OpenRadiation base include the data you enter, and information on the model and identifier for the sensor used, the model and identifier of the telephone, your user name, and the GPS position at the time of the measurement. On this basis, by passing via the OpenRadiation application, the following items of data will be systematically transmitted:

  • apparatusId: identifier of the sensor used for the measurement
  • apparatusVersion: sensor model
  • apparatusSensorType: Geiger or photodiode
  • apparatusTubeType: type of tube if a geiger type sensor is used
  • value: measurement in µSv/h
  • hitsNumber: number of counts during the measurement

Glossary

OpenRadiation API: A web service provided for the public at the address openradiation.net, which can mainly  be used to access and update the OpenRadiation base.

OpenRadiation application: Mobile application published by the OpenRadiation publisher via Google PlayⓇ and Apple StoreⓇ, known as OpenRadiation.

OpenRadiation base: A collaborative open (or opendata) data base for radioactivity measurements, published in full at https://request.openradiation.net/download.html

OpenRadiation sensor: OpenRadiation brand sensors provided by OpenRadiation partners. Third party sensors communicating with the OpenRadiation application or OpenRadiation API are not considered as OpenRadiation sensors.

These partners manage the OpenRadiation project jointly, but not in the form of a company, association or any other legal entity. All Partners act in their own names in the context of OpenRadiation.

User: Refers to any person, including yourself, who uses or consults the OpenRadiation base, the OpenRadiation API, the OpenRadiation site, the OpenRadiation application or the OpenRadiation sensor.

User-Contributor: Refers to any person, including yourself, who is already a User, and also contributes to the OpenRadiation base or the OpenRadiation site, via either a direct contribution to the OpenRadiation site or via the OpenRadiation application, the OpenRadiation API and/or the OpenRadiation sensor.
